Baghdad is a 17-year-old female skater, who lives in Freguesia do Ó, a working-class neighborhood in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Baghdad skateboards with a group of male friends and spends a lot of time with her family and with her mother’s friends. Together, the women around her form a network of people who are out of the ordinary. When Baghdad meets a group of female skateboarders, her life suddenly changes.

Caru Alves De Souza
Direction & Screenplay
Caru Alves de Souza is a director, scriptwriter and producer. Her debut feature, Underage (2013) had its world premiere at the 61st San Sebastian Film Festival and was awarded Best Film at the Rio International Film Festival. The film was also acquired by HBO Latin America and Canal Brasil.
She directed and scripted the shorts Family Affair (2011), which had its world premiere at FRAMELINE (San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival), and The World of Ulim and Oilut (2011), which had its world premiere at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. In 2017, her second feature film as director/scriptwriter, My Name is Baghdad (Meu Nome é Bagdá, 2020), received a grant from the Tribeca Film Institute’s Latin America Fund for projects in advanced stages of development, and a grant from the Ibermedia Programme’s Development Support in 2015. Alves de Souza has also directed 10 episodes of the second season of the television documentary series Causando na Rua for the CINEBRASiLTV channel, which is currently on air, and two documentaries, Mascarianas and Vestígios, for TV Cultura.
Josefina Trotta
Screenplay
Josefina Trotta was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a writer known for the films Meu Nombre é Bagda (2020), La Vingança (2017), Darkness by Day (2014). For television, she was creator and writer of the TV series Amigo de Aluguel for Universal TV (2018), screenwriter for the anthology series Destino Salvador for HBO and the adaptations of the American sitcoms Married with Children, Bewitched and Who's the Boss for Telefé Producciones Argentina.
